Putin Says Russia Ready to Supply ‘Uninterrupted’ Fuel to India

an President Vladimir Putin said Moscow is prepared to provide “uninterrupted shipments” of fuel to India, as New Delhi faces pressure from the United States to halt purchases of Russian oil.

Speaking in Delhi alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Putin questioned why India should face penalties for purchasing Russian oil when the US continues to buy nuclear fuel from Russia. His remarks come as Washington maintains 50% tariffs on most Indian goods, arguing that India’s oil imports from Russia support the war in Ukraine — a claim India denies.

Putin also reiterated that Ukraine must withdraw from the Donbas region or Russia would take it by force. Modi maintained India’s position of supporting peace efforts and emphasised the priority of strengthening connectivity between the two nations.

During the visit, both leaders exchanged memorandums on cooperation in trade, agriculture, civil nuclear energy, and critical minerals. Modi announced two new 30-day visa schemes for Russian tourists and the opening of new Indian consulates in Russia. Russia Today will also launch in India.

India and Russia agreed on an economic programme valid until 2030, covering shipping, jobs, and healthcare. Putin expressed confidence that bilateral trade could rise from $60 billion to $100 billion. He also highlighted Russia’s involvement in building India’s largest nuclear power plant.

In a joint statement, both leaders said their defence partnership is being reoriented toward joint research, development, and production of advanced defence platforms. They also affirmed cooperation within the BRICS alliance to promote a multipolar world.
