Santiago Nieva Returns as Head Coach of Indian Women’s Boxing Team

Santiago Nieva, former high-performance director of Indian boxing, has been reappointed as the head coach of the Indian women’s boxing team. Following India’s medal-less performance at Paris 2024, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) brought him back to lead preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Nieva aims to build on India’s recent successes, including medals at the World Championships in Liverpool and the World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida.

Nieva expressed confidence that his previous experience will help the team achieve better results and highlighted his focus on nurturing talent from the grassroots. With the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2026 on the horizon, he plans to strategically guide the athletes to peak performance.

The BFI remains committed to providing full support to the women boxers, emphasizing India’s ambition to secure more than a single medal in Los Angeles. The appointment signals a renewed focus on strengthening the country’s presence in international women’s boxing.
