Three Minor Sisters Found Dead in Ghaziabad High-Rise; Police Probe Focuses on Digital Gaming Exposure

Three minor sisters were found dead in the early hours of Tuesday after falling from a ninth-floor apartment in a residential society in Ghaziabad, triggering shock and concern among residents and authorities. The incident occurred in Bharat City Society, located under the jurisdiction of the Tila Mod police station.

The deceased have been identified as three sisters aged 16, 14 and 12 years. Police officials said the matter is being treated as a suspected case of self-harm, though all angles are being examined as part of the investigation.

According to preliminary information shared by the police, the incident took place around 2 am. Family members and neighbours alerted local authorities after the sisters were found outside the building. They were immediately taken to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Senior police officers said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause and sequence of events. A forensic team also visited the apartment to collect material evidence and examine the surroundings.

    Initial Findings and Investigation

An officer involved in the investigation said the sisters were living with their family in a ninth-floor flat of Tower B-1. During a preliminary inspection, police found that a window in one of the rooms was open. The room reportedly contained a small prayer area. Investigators believe the sisters may have used a chair placed near the window, though this aspect is still being verified.

Police officials confirmed that handwritten notes were recovered from the apartment. These documents are currently being examined, and their contents have not been officially disclosed. Authorities said they are proceeding cautiously and will only draw conclusions after forensic and handwriting analysis reports are received.

“There are several aspects that need to be verified, including family background, schooling history and behavioural patterns. We are speaking to relatives, neighbours and others who were in regular contact with the family,” a senior police officer said.

Education and Lifestyle Factors Under Review

Investigators noted that the sisters had not been attending school regularly since the Covid-19 pandemic period. Officials said this detail is being looked at as part of a broader assessment of their daily routine, social interaction and emotional well-being.

Police are also examining the sisters’ digital activity. According to sources familiar with the inquiry, investigators are looking into the possibility of excessive use of an online task-based gaming application. However, officials stressed that this is only one of several factors under review and no direct conclusions have been drawn at this stage.

“We are analysing mobile devices and online activity with the help of cyber experts. It would be premature to link the incident to any single cause,” a police source said.

    Community Shock and Broader Concerns

The incident has sent shockwaves through the residential society and surrounding areas. Residents described the family as quiet and said there had been no visible disputes or disturbances in recent days. Many neighbours gathered outside the building as police conducted their investigation.

Child welfare experts say the case highlights growing concerns around unsupervised digital exposure, social isolation and the long-term psychological impact of the pandemic on children. Several specialists have pointed out that prolonged lack of routine schooling and limited peer interaction can affect emotional health, especially among adolescents.

However, experts also cautioned against oversimplifying such incidents. “These situations are usually complex and involve multiple emotional, social and environmental factors. Responsible reporting and careful investigation are crucial,” said a child psychologist based in Delhi.

    Police Appeal and Support Systems

Police officials urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed. They also appealed to parents and guardians to remain attentive to children’s mental and emotional needs, particularly in the digital age.

Authorities said they are coordinating with child protection agencies and counsellors to provide support to the family. Local administration officials also indicated that awareness programmes on responsible digital usage and mental health may be strengthened in schools and residential communities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said further details will be shared once official reports are available.

If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress, experts advise reaching out to family members, trusted individuals or professional counsellors. Multiple helplines and support services are available to provide confidential assistance.
