Kangana Ranaut Criticises Opposition Over Repeated Disruptions on First Day of Winter Session

Actor-turned-parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut criticised Opposition parties on Monday after the Winter Session of Parliament began with repeated interruptions, saying the disturbances reflected growing frustration within Opposition ranks following recent electoral setbacks.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, the BJP MP said that important legislative business could not be conducted as the House was repeatedly adjourned.
“The more they lose, the more disappointed they appear. Several key discussions scheduled for the day could not take place,” she said.

The opening day of the session saw multiple adjournments between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., allowing only about 50 minutes of legislative work. Members of the ruling party accused Opposition MPs of preventing the House from functioning.

During the session, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, noting that amendments to the Central Goods and Services Act had already been implemented in most states but were pending in Manipur due to the state assembly’s suspension.

She also introduced the Health Security to National Security Cess Bill, 2025 and the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025 amid continued sloganeering.

Opposition members throughout the day demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised slogans inside the House, leading to further adjournments.

Ranaut said that frequent disruptions were affecting public perception.
“The entire nation is watching, and such behaviour only weakens their credibility,” she added.
