Eknath Shinde Meets Amit Shah in Delhi Ahead of Union Cabinet Reshuffle; Shiv Sena Likely to Get Two Ministerial Berths

    Yugcharan News / 15 July 2026

Political activity intensified in New Delhi on Tuesday night as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde held a key meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid growing speculation over an imminent expansion and reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers. The meeting has sparked fresh discussions about the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) strategy ahead of crucial political developments and the possibility of greater representation for Shiv Sena in the Union Cabinet.

According to political sources, the meeting focused on the upcoming cabinet reshuffle, Maharashtra's pending developmental issues, and the representation of Shiv Sena at the Centre. Although neither the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nor Shiv Sena has issued an official statement regarding the discussions, sources familiar with the matter suggest that the party may receive one Cabinet berth and one Minister of State position in the proposed expansion.

Eknath Shinde reportedly arrived in the national capital late on Tuesday and met Amit Shah shortly afterward. Several Members of Parliament associated with Shiv Sena were also present in Delhi during the visit, further strengthening speculation that discussions over ministerial appointments have reached an advanced stage.

Political observers believe that the expansion of the Union Cabinet is likely to take place before the commencement of the upcoming Parliament session. The reshuffle is expected to accommodate alliance partners while also balancing regional representation and political equations across several states.

One of the key developments under discussion is the growing strength of Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha. Following the induction of six MPs who had earlier separated from the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena now reportedly has 13 Members of Parliament, making it one of Maharashtra's largest parliamentary groups. This increase in numerical strength is believed to have strengthened the party's claim for enhanced representation in the Union government.

Sources indicate that Kalyan MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, son of Eknath Shinde, is among the leading names being considered for a Cabinet-level position. Meanwhile, Dharashiv MP Omraje Nimbalkar and Parbhani MP Sanjay Jadhav are also reportedly being discussed for possible Minister of State roles. However, no official confirmation has been issued regarding any appointments.

Apart from cabinet positions, the meeting is also believed to have included discussions related to Maharashtra's development agenda. According to political sources, the Centre has assured continued support for infrastructure projects and developmental initiatives in the state. Officials familiar with the discussions suggested that there would be no shortage of financial assistance from the Union government for projects considered important to Maharashtra's growth.

Before leaving for Delhi, Eknath Shinde reportedly held consultations with senior leaders of Shiv Sena and members of the Maharashtra cabinet. During these internal discussions, party leaders reviewed the likely Union cabinet expansion and also deliberated on the pending appointments to various state corporations and boards, which have remained incomplete for some time.

The expected cabinet reshuffle comes at a politically significant moment. In recent months, several regional political parties have witnessed internal divisions and realignments, prompting the NDA leadership to reassess its strategy at the national level. Political analysts believe the central leadership may use the cabinet expansion to reward alliance partners while strengthening its electoral position ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in several states.

Reports also suggest that leaders who recently joined NDA-aligned factions from opposition parties could receive ministerial responsibilities as part of the reshuffle. Such a move would reflect the coalition's efforts to consolidate political support and broaden its social and regional representation.

Apart from new inductions, changes within the existing Union Cabinet are also expected. According to political sources, the portfolios of several senior ministers could be revised as part of the restructuring exercise. While no official announcement has been made, there is speculation that ministers handling key departments, including education, railways, and other major ministries, may witness changes in responsibilities depending on the government's administrative priorities.

Political experts note that cabinet reshuffles often serve multiple objectives beyond simply filling vacancies. They help governments improve administrative efficiency, reward performing leaders, maintain coalition stability, and prepare for future electoral challenges. With several important state elections approaching, the NDA leadership is expected to focus on maintaining political balance across regions, communities, and alliance partners.

The possibility of enhanced representation for Shiv Sena is particularly significant because the party remains one of the BJP's principal allies in Maharashtra. The strengthening of the alliance at the national level could also influence political dynamics within the state, where coalition politics continues to play a crucial role.

Despite widespread speculation, both the BJP and Shiv Sena have maintained silence regarding the details of the meeting between Amit Shah and Eknath Shinde. Party leaders have refrained from commenting publicly on cabinet allocations or the timing of the proposed expansion. Political observers believe an official announcement is likely only after the BJP's central leadership completes consultations with all NDA allies.

As Parliament prepares to begin its next session, attention now remains firmly on New Delhi, where the Union government is expected to finalise the structure of the expanded Council of Ministers. Until an official notification is issued, the names of prospective ministers and portfolio allocations remain subjects of political discussion rather than confirmed decisions.

The developments are being closely watched by political parties, analysts, and citizens alike, as the proposed cabinet reshuffle could significantly shape the government's policy direction and alliance dynamics in the months ahead. With Shiv Sena's growing parliamentary presence and its continued alliance with the BJP, the party appears well-positioned to play a more prominent role in the Union government if the anticipated expansion proceeds as expected.
