Eknath Shinde Meets Amit Shah in Delhi Amid Cabinet Reshuffle Buzz; Shiv Sena Likely to Get Two Berths in Union Council of Ministers

New Delhi: Political activity in the national capital intensified on Tuesday night as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, triggering fresh speculation over the much-anticipated expansion and reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers. The high-level meeting comes at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is believed to be finalising its strategy for strengthening political representation ahead of upcoming electoral challenges across several states.

According to political sources, the meeting focused on the proposed Union Cabinet expansion, representation of Shiv Sena in the Central Government, and several development-related issues concerning Maharashtra. While there has been no official confirmation from either side regarding the discussions, multiple reports suggest that Shiv Sena may receive one Cabinet berth and one Minister of State position in the upcoming reshuffle.

The development has gained significance because Shiv Sena's strength in the Lok Sabha has increased in recent months following the induction of several Members of Parliament from rival political camps. The party now enjoys greater numerical strength within Maharashtra's parliamentary representation, strengthening its claim for a larger role in the Union Government.

Sources familiar with the discussions indicate that Lok Sabha MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, son of Eknath Shinde, is among the prominent names being considered for a Cabinet-level position. For the Minister of State post, the names of MPs Omraje Nimbalkar and Sanjay Jadhav are reportedly under discussion. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the final list of ministers.

The proposed reshuffle is expected before the commencement of the upcoming Parliament session. Political observers believe the exercise is aimed at balancing regional representation, accommodating alliance partners, rewarding influential leaders, and preparing the NDA for the next phase of political challenges.

Apart from Cabinet expansion, the meeting between Amit Shah and Eknath Shinde is also understood to have covered issues related to Maharashtra's development projects. According to sources, the Union leadership assured the Maharashtra government that there would be no shortage of Central assistance for infrastructure, public welfare schemes, and ongoing development initiatives in the state.

The assurance assumes importance as Maharashtra continues to seek financial support for several large-scale projects, including transport infrastructure, urban development, irrigation, industrial investment, and rural connectivity. Strengthening coordination between the Centre and the state government remains a key priority for both leaderships.

Before leaving for New Delhi, Eknath Shinde reportedly held discussions with senior Shiv Sena leaders and Cabinet colleagues in Maharashtra. The meeting is believed to have reviewed both the expected Union Cabinet reshuffle and pending appointments to state corporations and boards, which have remained under discussion for several months.

Political analysts note that the timing of the Delhi visit is significant. With Parliament scheduled to begin its next session shortly and several assembly elections approaching in different parts of the country, the BJP leadership is expected to recalibrate its political strategy through Cabinet changes and organisational adjustments.

Reports also suggest that the reshuffle may not be limited to accommodating alliance partners. Several existing Union ministers could witness changes in their portfolios, while a few new faces may be inducted into the Council of Ministers. Such exercises are generally undertaken to improve governance, strengthen regional representation and respond to evolving political dynamics.

According to political discussions in New Delhi, ministries currently handled by some senior leaders may undergo restructuring. While no official list has been released, there is speculation that departments headed by ministers such as Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishnaw and a few others could witness changes as part of the larger reorganisation. Government sources, however, have not confirmed any portfolio adjustments.

The expansion is also expected to consider social and regional representation across states, ensuring that various communities and alliance partners receive appropriate participation in the Union Government. This balancing exercise has become increasingly important as the NDA seeks to consolidate its political position across different regions of the country.

Shiv Sena's growing parliamentary strength has further strengthened its bargaining position within the alliance. Following the inclusion of several MPs who shifted political allegiance in recent months, the party now has 13 Members of Parliament, making it one of Maharashtra's strongest parliamentary forces. This numerical advantage has naturally increased expectations regarding its representation at the Centre.

Meanwhile, discussions within political circles also continue regarding possible representation for other NDA allies in the Cabinet expansion. Leaders from alliance parties are expected to receive positions based on parliamentary strength, regional influence, and strategic political considerations.

Apart from Maharashtra, the BJP leadership is believed to be reviewing political equations in states that are heading toward assembly elections. The Cabinet reshuffle is therefore expected to serve both administrative and political objectives by rewarding performers, inducting experienced leaders, and providing broader representation across the alliance.

While speculation continues over the final shape of the new Council of Ministers, neither the Prime Minister's Office nor the BJP has officially announced the date for the Cabinet expansion. Similarly, Shiv Sena leaders have refrained from commenting publicly on the discussions held in Delhi.

Political observers believe the coming days will be crucial as the NDA leadership finalises the list of ministers and portfolios before Parliament convenes. Any decision regarding Shiv Sena's representation could have significant political implications, both for Maharashtra and for the broader dynamics within the ruling alliance.

For now, Eknath Shinde's meeting with Amit Shah has intensified political speculation, with attention firmly focused on the likely Cabinet reshuffle and the evolving role of Shiv Sena within the NDA government. Official announcements are expected only after the Union Government completes its internal consultations and final approvals.
