Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, a 1975-batch Indian Administrative Service officer who played a significant role in the administration and development of the national capital, has died by suicide at his residence in Noida. Mehta was 75.

According to the information available in the police investigation, Mehta was found dead at his rented residence in Kendriya Vihar-2 Society in Sector 82, Noida. He had been living at the society for around five years. Police officials recovered a one-page note written in English from the residence. The note reportedly mentioned health-related difficulties and mental distress, while stating that no one should be held responsible for his decision.

Sumanti Mehta was in Dehradun at the time, visiting the couple's son, who is pursuing a PhD there. After repeated calls went unanswered, she reportedly asked the security guard at the Noida housing society to check on her husband.

When there was no response from the flat, the police were informed. Officers subsequently reached the residence and found Mehta dead. His family later arrived in Noida.

Police recovered the note from the premises as part of their initial investigation. Based on the information cited in the note, health problems appear to have been a significant factor behind the former bureaucrat's distress. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Long Career in Delhi Administration

Rakesh Mehta belonged to the 1975 batch of the Indian Administrative Service and spent a substantial part of his career working in and around Delhi's administration.
